Renovating existing structures to maintain their integrity or to return them to their former glory is our specialty. When building new construction, whether an addition, outbuilding, or new home, we aim to match the aesthetics of the surroundings.

Victor was born and raised in Lebanon, ME on an apple orchard. He would visit his maternal grandmother, Isa Cole, each summer, helping her around the 1784 House. Victor married Jean Rollins and moved to the island year-round in 1973. Together Jean and Victor ran the Monhegan House in the summer and he worked as a sternman in the winter. Victor was a problem solver, always innovating and coming up with solutions to daily challenges. Victor worked with several carpenters through the early '80s, striking out on his own and founding Monhegan Restorations c. 1989.
Richard Irish joined the team as a master craftsman bringing his invaluable technical knowledge and skill to each project.
Around the same time, Ed Deci entrusted Victor with one of his biggest jobs to date, the building of the Assistant Keeper's House at Monhegan Museum. This solidified Monhegan Restoration's reputation for quality craftmanship, and Monhegan Restorations has continued to work regularly with the Monhegan Museum maintaining and repairing their new and historic buildings.
After graduating from Southern Maine Community College with a degree in building and construction, Kole joined his father in the business. Kole brings the knowledge of a lifetime spent observing the effects of weather on buildings and systems as well as the inner workings of Monhegan to every job.
After his father's death, Kole became principal in the business. In the transition, many things stayed the same and some things changed. What stays the same is the quality work that you can count on.

Monhegan is our home and we treat each home and project with the same care and attention that we bring to our own. We take pride in our work and seek to build long-lasting partnerships with the home owners. We recognize your Monhegan home is important to you and we appreciate you entrusting it in our care.
Kole has general contracted and completed many large projects for us including, upgrading entire electrical system and getting the house on the power grid, installation of basement vapor barrier and dehumidifier, new sub-flooring and wood floor installation, bath and fixture upgrade. He is also acting caretaker and does a superb job managing property...he even somehow managed to get our internet up and running when no one else seemed to have the answer!

We have worked closely with Kole over the past ten years on our house and the experience has been incredibly positive. He is very responsive (comes over at all times of the day and night if needed) and tackles big issues (leaking roof) as well as small (leaking dishwasher). He has replaced or installed our roofs, ceilings, windows, doors, toilets, decks, new appliances and reshingled countless times. His work product is excellent and we find him to be thoughtful, personable and considerate. In addition, he offers creative ideas on how to approach a particular project or problem. My wife and I think very highly of Kole as a person as well as someone we trust with our house.

We have used Monhegan Restorations as our Monhegan general contractor and caretaker for over 15 years. In that time, we have witnessed nothing but high competence and reliability in all our dealings with them. The service and integrity of Monhegan Restorations has never let us down.
